Community Optometrists

The Lanarkshire Eye-health Network Scheme (LENS) means that many acute eye problems can be dealt with by one of the local Optometrists instead of waiting for an appointment with the doctor. The conditions covered under this scheme are

  1. Infections in and around eye including conjunctivitis, Blepharitis and sty etc.
  2. Minor eye injury including foreign bodies,
  3. Red eye with or without pain and with or without reduced vision
  4. Dry eyes
  5. Suspicion of acute glaucoma

You should contact a local optician and ask for an appointment – you do not need to be previously registered with them. The Optometrist can then assesses, treat and refer (to Hospital or GP) as necessary
